Matt Moneymaker Stirs Up the Twittersphere with His Bigfoot Bioluminescence

Matt Moneymaker with my nephew
Before I begin, I think it is important that I cover all the caveats. I like Matt Moneymaker, my nephew really wanted to meet him while he was at the filming site of a Finding Bigfoot episode. During all the chaos of producers, lighting checks, sound checks and other fans, Matt Moneymaker gave his undivided attention and time to my nephew. He didn't jump back in to the fray of TV making until he had a good chat with him. I also think it easy to take for granted the contributions Matt Moneymaker has made to Sasquatch field research.

This doesn't change that his larger than life personality makes for an easy target in the twitterverse. And, of course it doesn't mean I have to agree with every theory he has. Cue the video.

Read some of the choice twitter reactions, including ones from Cliff Barackman, Ranae Holland and James Bobo Fay below.

Most of us know eye-shine and bioluminescence are two different things. We have a great explanation for bigfoot eye-shine, or at least how eye-shine works for most mammals (spoiler alert: Its caused by the tapetum lucidum). Bioluminescence, as Animal Planet clearly pointed out in the above tweet is usually reserved for deep water creatures and some fungi.

What do you think about Bigfoot eyeshine? Or Matt's theory? Please leave some comments below.

  1. I like him too, but I totally cringed when he said that. Still gotta love his passion.

    1. And tonight he regales us with < Bigfoots like power line trails, and Matt and Bobo and his band of merry camera men make more noise that a band of hyenas...dont know how many of you have actually spent much time in the woods, but wildlife likes to run like heck when they hear noise.......they dont come investigate

  4. Moneymaker is the biggest dope ever. He will make up ANYthing to retrofit some tidbit of data into "evidence" of a bigfoot. They'll find a deer carcass and it's "well we know bigfoot eat deer so this is probably a feeding ground for them. They hear a coyote howl and it's "well we know bigfoots frequently mimic other animals..." His show os a joke.

    1. Just the name Moneymaker is taking the mickey out of his own audience because he seems to make these daft comments and back them up with double Dutch reasoning. Moneymaker will say anything to try and persuade you about Bigfoot and that leads me to the other two guys especially Bo Bo who believes every thing and every incident is down to a Sasquatch. Unbelievable !! Renee is the only one with any guts to speak out but do they listen to her... only when it seems to suit them ! (geddit suit them... ya know the patterson suit film.. aww forgeddit - lol)
Since I was a kid I've always loved the mystery of Bigfoot, Nessie, thunderbirds, etc but these type of shows are just wacko and only serve to take away the mystery of cryptozoology they do however make the moneymakers of this world plenty of dosh !!

  7. How does he know this? The theory is based on what? Maybe he came up with this theory when they were putting meat on a plastic deer or maybe when they had a BBQ in the middle of the woods!

  8. Love the show and all the cast but I had to rewind my Tivo just to make sure I heard that correctly. Seems like a stretch to me.

  9. Sorry, I had high hopes for this show, ranae is the only one with any cred in my book. I used to believe, now I only scoff.....its sad

  10. Jeffrey, dont fall into that trap! People like Moneymaker make the rest of us who look at this scientifically and with an open mind look like fools. He has a lot of farfetched ideas and should keep most of them to himself since he has NO proof of any of it. Just because he thinks every branch snap in the woods MUST be a Bigfoot knock or a Bigfoot walking by in the woods doesnt mean the rest of us are fools like him. The show would honestly have a lot more credibility without him. At this point I only respect Ranae and watch the show just to keep up with recent sightings sent to them that I may have missed. Never give up hope that they really could be out there but dont take anything Matt says seriously.

  11. I don't agree with the theory. .. However, there are no facts or proof therefore, nothing can be really discounted 100% only 'highly unlikely'. Unless someone on here has evidence that he is wrong other than 'its usually found in aquatic animals.' And someone might want to let people know that usually is the operative word there. Otherwise we may want to let fireflies, glow worms, some centipedes, and certain Beetles know they need to move their buts under the Sea... and scientists all over the world need to agree that we've miraculously decided there are no new species to discover. Last I heard that statement is still to be desired. Considering we are still finding unknown tribe of humans with populations in the hundreds I feel it's 'highly unlikely' we will hear that anytime soon. ~Pearl

  12. Shane Starr This show becomes more ridiculous with each new episode! Now B.F.'s evidently have eye bioluminescence? How can you trust or believe anyone who's last name is Moneymaker. Just another blow to B.F. Credibility.

  13. I'm gonna call bull on this. I'm a biologist, and what everyone is saying about bioluminescence is true that mammals are not capable. Lack of evidence does not give credence to possibility. The problem with all of this is that the scientific method is not being applied. There is no evidence of bioluminescence. I'm not ruling out eyeshine. I wouldn't consider bioluminescence given the what we know about it plus we have no evidence to suggest that any mammal can, bigfoot or otherwise.

  14. "cows are people food" "bigfoot make themselves sound like coyotes." It's an entire show based on unprovable eyewitness reports and excuses for his bs...

Moneymaker gives pseudoscience of cryptozoology a bad name.

  15. I wish Matt would quit making snide remarks about renae and downgrading her in front of witnesses. Pastor hartwell

  16. I agree. Ranae is the most logical of the bunch. Matt's comments are unnecessary and just make him look like a jerk. The bioluminescence theory of his is pretty weak, too. ;) I wish he wasn't on the show anymore, honestly.
