We provide an excerpt below and a list of the speaker line up.

Expo To Discuss Bigfoot Sightings Event Set For May 4-6 In Mayville
April 22, 2012
The Post-Journal
MAYVILLE - The inaugural Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo will take place May 4-6 at the Chautauqua Suites.
Melissa Hovey, one of the speakers coming to the Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo and one of the leading female bigfoot researchers in the country, has defended herself against a copyright infringement of a photograph she owns and has copyright of a Bigfoot picture she will show publicly at The Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo. [You will want to read Bigfoot Lunch Club's exclusive Melissa Hovey Photo Coverage]
Hovey will discuss at the Expo the emotional turmoil a witness to a Bigfoot sighting can go through, and the toll such an experience can and does have on the personal and professional lives of people who are simply talking about being witness to something they can't explain.
This turmoil and fear of has touched upon a number of eyewitnesses that have come forward to Peter Wiemer, Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo chairman, in telling and emailing him about their personal eyewitness sightings here in Western New York.
"They are remaining anonymous, because of their genuine fear of being ridiculed and the fear of being outcast by their peers and professions," Wiemer said in a news release...
...Events open to the public include a town hall-type meeting on May 4; a Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Golf Championship at WoodCrest Golf Course at 9 a.m. May 5; and a Bigfoot Expedition in the early evening on May 5.
The event culminates with the Expo on May 6, which will also include a Bigfoot Poster Contest for children and adults.

The line-up of the four speakers from the article is below (these are the same bios that are pulled directly from the speaker line up at ChautauquaLakeBigfoot.com.

Wildlife expert and educator Larry Batson and his wife, Cheryl, have appeared on television shows and traveled around the country with their wildlife show. They have rescued animals ranging from baboons to snakes to large felines and travel to many schools and public events educating children and adults on the natural history of wild animals. Batson will speak both May 5 and 6, and will have some of his animals with him.

Melissa Hovey is a paralegal and Bigfoot researcher from Ohio. She is the president of the American Bigfoot Society. Melissa is also a member of Sasquatch Watch of Virginia, and a former member of the TBRC. Since beginning her research in 2005, Ms. Hovey has started her own blog and forum entitled "The Search for Bigfoot." In 2007, she began co-hosting Internet radio shows starting with "Let's Talk Bigfoot," then she joined, "The Sasquatch Experience," with Sean Forker in February 2008. In June 2008, she began co-hosting a new program on Blogtalk radio, with Monica Rawlins, her friend and former TBRC board member and field researcher, called, "The Grey Area." Ms. Hovey was also featured on the all-female expedition episode of the History Channel's "MonsterQuest" titled, "Bigfoot" during the show's first season.

Billy Willard is president of an environmental consulting firm. He oversees various types of environmental assessment and cleanup projects such as leaking underground petroleum tanks, environmental site assessments and soil and groundwater remediation. He is an OSHA hazwoper supervisor and holds many other credentials. He became interested in the Bigfoot phenomena early in life as a child after watching such movies as the "Legend of Boggy Creek" and the "Creature From Black Lake." In 2005, Wilard and his son Josh formed Sasquatch Watch of Virginia. Billy is vice president of the American Bigfoot Society, a director for The Alliance of Independent Bigfoot Researchers, member of the Northeast Sasquatch Researchers Association and a member of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society.

In addition, Willard used to host an Internet radio program every Monday night at 9 p.m. on the Blogtalk Radio Network called "Sasquatch Watch Radio." Each week he has guests from around the world that include Bigfoot researchers and eyewitnesses. The shows are archived and available for listening.

Steve Kulls began his quest in 1998 seeking knowledge from other researchers in the field. Kulls said he believes in a "boots on the ground" methodology of obtaining evidence for or against, evidence regarding the Sasquatch mystery. Kulls said he has had five sightings in the last 12 years and a handful of what he describes as "most likely, close encounters" with the creatures, after initially entering the field quite skeptical. Kulls has appeared internationally on television, radio and in print as well as appearing on the History Channel's "MonsterQuest" series (Bigfoot in New York) and on the NatGeo Channel's "The Truth Behind" series (The Truth Behind: The Loch Ness Monster).

    2. And what exactly have you contributed Sharon Day?

    3. I can tell you what she didn't deliver... a hoax photo

    4. Melissa has no idea whether that photo is real or not. That is why she released it to the public, to get more information and to try to have it proven one way or another. If you had actually bothered to read all the information Melissa provided on her blog you might understand that. But then I am sure Melissa's blog does not provide the kinds of pictures you are actually interested in looking at,does it "sasquazzziii"?

    5. As a police officer, I can tell you that she's bogus. You're blinded by friendship. Sorry dear hoaxer buddy.

    6. as a police officer you should know better than to speak about things you have not investigated.

but who can check if you're really a police officer? no one knows who you are. so who is bogus? have you ever spoken to mellissa? i bet you havent. if you had then you would know she works with police officers in her group. she is so bogus she surrounds herself with cops.

either do something in this field of research or shut up about those who are. the negative people sound more like jealous folks than anything else. being jealous does not make you an expert at anything but being angry.

    7. A police officer who is afraid of using his own name huh sasquazzziii, or should I say Ganglian????

    8. Seriously Sharon Day? I would rather have Melissa Hovey represent female researchers than you! And you know what I am referring to.

    10. I'm still not sure what Sharon Day is supposed to have contributed to the field of Bigfoot Research?

Field Work? Historical Documentation? Working with and supporting Witnesses? Academic Study in a related Scientific Field?

      Bigfoot aren't ghosts after all.....

    11. Ganglian???? My name is Alfred Watts, find me on facebook. And yes... I did investigate. Trust me, you don't want to continue.

BTW, I think it's cute how all the women ban together on the comments page. Keep it up "researchers" :)

    12. Gossip is not investigation. You're an ass sasquazzziii - and the women should ban together against a sexist pig like you.

    13. It's so cute when the little people get their panties wadded up so tightly and have to spew their hatred anonymously. I feel sorry for you. Good or bad I own what I say. I am not perfect and I am not a full time researcher, however, I do get into the woods every now and then...you should try it.

    1. Yes Melissa, awesome job writing your own bio at an event you're co-promoting. That must have been a difficult decision for you :)

  6. Thank you Nadia for the nice comments. Anyone who thinks I honestly believe this, needs to have their head examined. Advertising for a conference is just that - advertising. But, I'm not surprised anymore with what people find important. LOL. Must have been a slow news day. Heck, I was told about this more than a week ago by another female researcher -- yeah, I didn't even know it was on the conference site.. LOL. You gotta keep up Guy. But I can understand why you wouldn't contact me for comment prior to posting this.. :)

The women who know me, know how I feel about this, and honestly our sex should not even be a factor when determining the work we do in the field. But, I have no control over how someone advertises a conference. The work is what is important, not the gender of the person doing it.

Pamela I would be happy to read your book. Can you email me @ searchforbigfoot.org@woh.rr.com

    1. Hi Melissa, I had not yet mentioned the Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo yet (and it was coming up soon) and found it interesting that you will billed as the #1 Female Bigfoot Researcher.

I don't make any judgments about the title or the billing. I only reported it. Most layman who read this article would consider I was talking about you in a favorable light.

      Delete
    2. I just wanted to apologize to Melissa Hovey for not contacting her before I published my post. I regret not getting her take on the #1 billing. I honestly thought the post was favorable. I never dismiss, mock or make fun of the billing. I believe anybody outside of the community with fresh eyes would have become more interested in Melissa Hovey and her research. I also wanted to promote the Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo. It is only SOME in the "community" that felt it was a snarky piece.

However, it would have been a more balanced piece, and more representative of how I want to participate in the community had I asked for Melissa's reaction to the #1 billing. I would rather be thought of as Walter Cronkite than TMZ. I don't see many apologies between bigfooters and I think it is important to acknowledge our missteps. I'm sorry Melissa my intention was not to misrepresent you.

    3. Guy, that "some" that you refer to was your beloved Sharon Day. Don't take the low road now, your blog was doing so well without slamming others

  7. Thank you Guy, I accept your apology. I am always available to anyone who wants to ask me questions.

    1. Speaking of change since you sound like a fan, be sure to take some along. Hovey and her buddies are charging $2.00 for autographs...

    2. Wish you could be there too Aleta :( I think it's great that someone like this organizer who is not a researcher is willing to put on an event of this size AND an event that will have things never done before. I don't play golf, but I might go watch the golf tournament!!

Interesting Anonymous. Most speaker fees for a conference of this size are at least a $1,000.00.. All of the speakers for this event are doing this for free - and none are driving less than 4 hours. You're going to cry about 2 dollars? You're smart to remain Anonymous.

    3. No one pursuing an interest in Bigfoot research is making any money, and in fact most of us are losing it. To begrudge someone a little compensation for their hard work and time willing to spend sharing with others is pretty sad.

Jealousy and bitterness will only lead to loneliness and illness Mr. Anonymous. Don't you owe yourself better than that?

      Delete
    4. $2... HAHAHA.... does that come with a visit to my tent? ;)

      Delete
    5. Wow Mr. Sasquazzziii, sounds to me like you might need to spend $2 for someone to come to your tent and get rid of some of your anger, sinicism, and other apparent issues! Good luck with those sir! And Melissa, very exciting stuff for you going on it seems! Good for you!

      Delete
    6. HA! I'm not angry, but yes I do have issues just like EVERY SINGLE WOMAN on this thread. I think it's super funny how easily these cat fights break out. You're doing your gender proud!

      Al ;)

  10. Dear Melissa:

    1. Will you publicly state here that you have had NO input in organizing this conference or its marketing materials?
    2. Will you publicly state here that neither you, nor your American Bigfoot Society will receive a percentage of the admission revenue?
    3. Will you publicly state here the dollar figure you will receive as your travel, accommodation and food stipend?

    Just curious. Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have already answered these questions on a number of occasions, but heck why not again.

After I helped the organizer of the event obtain speakers, my role was over. Obtaining speakers is not organizing the event either. The event organizer produced all of the marketing materials. While this may be his first bigfoot conference, this is not his first conference.

Neither I nor the American Bigfoot Society are receiving a percentage of revenue from admission or anything else.

Neither I nor the American Bigfoot Society is even selling anything via a vendor table. Although, many, many others do. Maybe next year we will have T-Shirts or something to sell.

I will not be receiving any money for travel expenses or food. Heck, I didn't know I could charge for those things. I will keep my receipts just in case.. LOL.

I'm not really sure what these questions have to do with the conference, and why a select (less than a handful) of people, care about the financial business of others but there you go.

You would think bigfooters doing this for free would be the story.. But I guess the speculation is much more interesting.

    1. Melissa, is not lying about not being paid. No one would pay her for her Bigfoot knowledge or field experience. In this case they get what they a paying for. Nothing.

    2. Thanks for your answers! I'm sorry, but I thought some areas were unclear, and left open to interpretation. I felt it was best to go to the source rather than speculate. Have fun on Sunday!

  12. ya know the things I've seen written about any woman involved in the Sasquatch field are just down right misogynistic and really don't do anything but make the 'blogger' look vastly under-educated especially compared to the women he's bashing. I won't repeat what one particular blogger (or bugger take your pick) had to say about Ms Hovey or Dr. Ketchum, (or female Bigfoot for God's sake) suffice it to say it only makes the haters look like chumps. Which is probably exactly what they are.

  13. Has anyone seen the pictures posted on sasquatchtalesandreviews.blogspot.com it looks similar to the picture Hovey posted. It's from a movie. Not Clawed, but a film titled Abominale
